Where is the
excellent flute timbre from?
The air is soundless, the heart is
also soundless, but the heart and air can become into dulcet music
with our flute!
The music is of vitality. The flute
is animate too. The flute should be our precious tools of singing,
the embouchure is our voice. The headjoint is our mikephone. The
flute body is our controllable amplifier. All these are composed
of flute!
You can
imagine a wide flowing river, when the water enters in a culvert,
its flowing speed will become more fast naturally, and the current
is more concentrated. Here, we call this [ culvert effect ].
The Double hole Headjoint possesses of its heavy bass tone, clean
and wide sound, amazing responsiveness features. With the small
hole, the air stream beyond the blow hole edge is changed in a particular
way when playing. As one plays a headjoint, some air enters the
blow hole and some air travels beyond the blow hole; in other words,
the air stream is split by the edge of the blow hole. With a standard
lip plate, the air that travels beyond the blow hole creates a resistance.
This outside resistance inhibits the speed and amount of air that
enters the blow hole. The added hole on the lip plate channels some
air down the hole past the blow hole and some air continues down
the radius of the lip plate as on a standard lip plate. There are
now two air streams interacting with each other at an angle of approximately
45 degrees. This interaction reduces the "outside" resistance
and allows air to enter the blow hole at a faster rate. This makes
the tamber more concentrated and soft. By allowing the air to enter
the blow hole at a faster rate, responsiveness is increased, dramatically,
especially in the low register and the attack note.
The kind of technical design solves
many of the problems associated with piccolo, alto and bass flute
headjoints.
